Customer Testimonial

“We have a personal relationship with our Lightwell agent. To have someone that we know and trust who takes care of us and cares about our congregation means the world to me. He genuinely cares. He takes a real interest in our well-being and wants to make sure that we are protected, should anything unforeseen happen.”

Craig Cabaniss

Lead Pastor, Grace Church, Frisco, TX

“On a Saturday afternoon, we had a situation with a pipe leaking. Our Lightwell agent was here - literally within minutes of us calling. She walked us through the whole process and helped through all the details. As a result of that, we had a cleanup company here within hours, and we were able to have church the very next day.”

Jon Ferguson

Lead Pastor, Anderson Hills Church, Cincinnati, OH

“I don’t really think about insurance that much because we feel protected and have a Lightwell agent who’s in constant communication with us. I’m thankful we have an agent who freely shares information back and forth with us on a regular basis, and that’s the way it ought to be.”

Scott Anderson

Executive Pastor, Scottsdale Bible Church, Cave Creek, AZ

“Our Lightwell agents understand our mission and the needs of our district and our local churches. For example, we were holding a youth conference where thousands of students were coming together, and we wanted to provide a safe environment by requiring background checks for all the volunteers. Our agent quickly connected us to a local service who provided these screenings, which was a fantastic help to us. You will not be disappointed in the service you’ll receive from Lightwell.”

Jon Payne

Superintendent, Forest Lakes District Evangelical Free Church, Stevens Point, WI

Insurance & Services FAQs

We suggest asking about the following:

- Do they have unique expertise in ministry-specific risks?
- Will they provide personal care and attention?
- Do they have access to coverage that equips your ministry to care for volunteers and congregants?
- Do they provide resources that will help you manage risk?
- Do they have access to coverages that focus on ministry or business continuation?
- Do they have innovative services and offerings dedicated to helping ministries and nonprofits thrive?
- Will you be working with a local, knowledgeable agent who cares about your ministry or nonprofit who can answer your insurance and risk management questions?
Premium: The cost of an insurance policy

Deductible: The part of the loss that you (the insured) pay for before your insurance pays

Peril: A cause of loss

Endorsement: A document that changes the provisions of an insurance policy to add, reduce, or clarify coverage

Extensions: A type of endorsement that adds coverage to provisions of a policy

Policy Period: The dates that a policy is active

Policy Territory: The geographical area in which damage or injury must occur for coverage to apply
Not all payroll companies understand Christian ministries’ unique issues when it comes to housing allowances and clergy tax status. The result can be heavy fines and lawsuits.

When searching for a reliable payroll company, here are some things to ask:

- How many ministries do you work with?
- How does your call center work?
- Will we have our own payroll specialist?
- What other tools do you offer along with payroll?
- What steps will you take to protect my ministry’s information?
- What is your onboarding process like?
- How do you catch up on our payroll history?

Choosing the right provider means you can rely on a payroll specialist who becomes an effective extension of your ministry’s payroll or HR team.
Insurance plays a key role in managing risk. It’s important for ministry leaders to know whether your organization’s insurance policy or policies provide coverage on an “occurrence” or “claims-made” basis.

- Occurrence policies cover accidents and incidents that occur during the policy period, even if a claim or lawsuit is filed after the policy expires.

- Claims-made policies cover accidents and incidents submitted while the policy was in effect. However, if a claim related to past events is filed after the policy expires, it is unlikely coverage would apply.

Ministry leaders should seek the advice of their insurance agent about this important coverage distinction, and especially before changing from one type of insurance policy to another.
Our team understands that your insurance coverage needs are different from businesses in your community. We also understand that your coverage needs may evolve over time, as your ministry grows and changes.

We make assessing your ministry’s insurance needs easy. All it takes is a conversation. We have been working with ministries for a long time, and our experienced professionals know the right questions to ask to make sure you get the coverage you need. Our specialists can:

- Talk with you to learn about your ministry’s needs and complete a needs analysis survey.
- Review your ministry’s risk control goals.
- Tour your facilities and complete a ministry-building survey to estimate the value of your buildings and personal property.
- Assess unique and specific insurance needs that result from your property or operations, like having a playground or taking mission trips.
- Document areas of high risk and recommend strategies to help you control them.
- Analyze the information we gather to design a cost-effective insurance solution.
- Meet with you to present our findings, propose our solution, and explore and explain your options.

Please note: We cannot bind, accept, modify, or cancel coverage via email or voicemail.
